Fashion Timeline: Sunglasses
Humans have long sought to protect their eyes from the sun. Early Inuit peoples wore ivory “glasses” with slits cut in them and spectacles made from smoky quartz appeared in China as early as the 12th century. Sunglasses didn’t become popular as fashion accessories until the 1930s and 40s when vendors found masses of customers at the beach. Here are some of our favorite sunglasses from the last century.
